The World's Largest Ship to Sail Through the Suez Canal was 1,300 feet long - Apparently.
The SS Seawise Giant, also known as the Knock Nevis, was a ULCC (Ultra Large Crude Carrier) that held the record for the largest ship to ever sail through the Suez Canal in 1979. Measuring 1,300 feet (395 meters) in length, it was so massive that it had to be navigated through the canal in sections, with the stern and bow being lifted off the water to pass under bridges. The ship was eventually scrapped in 2010 after a long and storied career.
